This is a new service designed to improve upon existing transport arrangements for older people with mobility problems. These services rely on a mixture of hired in minibuses and taxis which are not always fully suitable for the needs of the client group (60+).
Burntwood has also been selected for the trial because of the problems some local people are experiencing in accessing the new Health Centre and the planned relocation of GP surgeries.
The Project will also be used to trial a dial and ride scheme. The trial will be monitored by a local partnership led by SCC.
If the scheme is successful then the scope to replicate it elsewhere will be explored.
The aims of the Project are:
- To address current gaps in public transport;
- Provide an appropriate specification of vehicle to meet all needs;
- Trial of a dial and ride scheme.
The elderly in the Burntwood area always seem to be forgotten when various projects are proposed. It’s good that our older citizens are given a chance to be involved in the Community and be offered a valuable service to assist with making their lives easier.
